About The Presa Canario
Originating from the Canary Islands, the Presa Canario / Dogo Canario is a molosser breed of medium to large size.
Originally bred as a guardian / cattle dog the Presa Canario has a powerful build and penetrating eyes. His bark is very deep and demands respect. Colors of the Presa Canario range from dark to light brindle (including reverse brindle) and all shades of fawn, always with a black mask. *(do not fall for the “rare” blue or all white dogs, as this is a definite sign of impure breeding)
Average size for males is 23.5 to 25.5 inches at the withers and 110 to 135 lbs. Females being slightly smaller, between 22 and 24 inches and 90 to 110 lbs.
The Presa Canario was created with a strong protective nature, they are highly capable guard dogs and can excel in protection work, boar hunting and weight pull.
The breed definitely needs an experienced owner, and formal obedience classes are strongly recommended. In the right hands, these gentle, trusting, and devoted dogs make excellent family companions.
